VAST Techmart 2015: Links and integration for joint development

The 2015 International Technology and Equipment Market of Vietnam (Techmart 2015), organised from October 1-4 by the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Hanoi People’s Committee, the Ho Chi Minh city People’s Committee and the Business Association of High Quality Vietnamese Products, opened on the evening of October 1, 2015 at the Hanoi Friendship Cultural Palace at No. 91 Tran Hung Dao Street.

Lang Biang recognized as world biosphere reserve by UNESCO

During the framework of the cooperation between the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) and the Lam Dong Provincial People’s Committee on the subject “Developing the profile for Bidoup National Park – Nui Ba world biosphere reserve”, coded VAST.NDP.13/13-14 carried out between 2013 and 2014, through workshops at different levels in September, 2014, VAST Institute of Ecology and Biological Resources worked with the Bi Doup – Nui Ba National Park to complete the profile and submit it to the International Co-ordinating Council (ICC) of the Man and the Biosphere (MAB) Programme of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

Reduce cholesterol, regulate blood fat and stabilize blood vessel wall (2)

An Mạch Vương is a health food, using the main ingredient of soybean phytosterol, a blood cholesterol reducing ingredient. The product, which first appeared in Vietnam, is a combination of steroid & alkaloid chemistry produced by the Institute of Chemistry under the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) with the support of the Russian Federation Academy of Science and Technology in 2003 and more recently by the Hoa Binh Pharmaceutical and Medical Supply JSC thanks to a VAST-level pilot production project, code VAST.SXTN.07/13-14. The product was granted a certificate of Safe Functional Food No 4417/2014/ATTP-XNCB dated March 28th 2014, by the Department of Food Hygiene and Safety under the Ministry of Health.

Study on biology, distribution and habitat of kissing bugs in provinces and cities in Vietnam

Kissing bugs under Triatoma genus were recognized in Vietnam in the past. However, now they tend to live in many localities nationwide and have moved closer to humans, especially in inhabited areas of several major cities such as Hanoi, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City. Kissing bugs affect local people’s daily lives, causing health worries when they spread into houses, attack and suck the blood of humans, leaving a swelling or even fever. A few studies have now been done on kissing bugs with scientific data, especially studies about their distribution, biology, epidemiology and relation with humans and domestic animals in Vietnam.

Implanting high-yield cow’s embryo in the Central Highlands – a new prospect trend

The Central Highlands province of Lam Dong has favourable conditions for the development of dairy cow breeding.

With the objective to build up the Holstein Friesian (HF) cow breed with high productivity and quality, scientists from the Tay Nguyen (Central Highlands) Institute for Scientific Research under Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) carried out a project studying and applying the technology of implanting high-yield cow’s embryo in the Central Highlands in the framework of the Central Highlands 3 Programme led by Dr. Le Thi Chau.
