On December 21, 2018, the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) organized a meeting “Reviewing the work in 2018 and carrying out the plan for 2019”, in order to assess all of its activities last year and implement the tasks assigned by the Party and State in 2019. Professor and Academic Chau Van Minh, member of the Party Central Committee (PCC), Secretary of the VAST Party Committee, and VAST President, chaired the meeting.
Together with the achievements in space research and the development of information technology, modern remote sensing technology has been formed and developed, bringing high efficiency for many socio-economic activities such as: basic surveys, exploitation and management of natural resources, environmental monitoring and protection, early detection and forecast of natural disasters for prevention and mitigation, territorial management, as well as applications in security and defense. Thus, remote sensing technology plays an important part in the sustainable development strategy of all countries.
During the visit to Vietnam by French Prime Minister Édouard Philippe on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations and 5 years of strategic partnership between Vietnam and France, on November 2, 2018, the Governments of the two countries signed the Phase 2 Agreement on the development of USTH.
On October 26, 2018, VAST solemnly held a ceremony to present the Medal of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) to Prof. Dr. Marie-Georges Olivier, Head of Materials Department, Mons University, the Kingdom of Belgium, for having contributions to building and developing VAST.
In order to enhance Vietnam's position in the Committee on Earth Observation Satellites (CEOS) and take over the rotating chairmanship of CEOS, and promote the diversity of leadership roles of members from major geographic regions like the US, Europe, Africa, Asia/Pacific; on October 18, 2018, in Brussels (Belgium), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Anh Tuan - General Director of Vietnam National Space Center (VNSC) under the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST), represented VAST to take over the position of rotating Chairman of CEOS 20.
On November 6th, 2018, a workshop on energy labelling and certification for LED lighting products took place in Ho Chi Minh City to develop and implement a pilot program for energy efficiency labeling and certification for LED lighting products, as well as to collect ideas when implementing the program, to contribute to accelerating the progress of the voluntary labeling program in 2018 and 2019, advancing to compulsory labeling from 2020.
