Bats reported due to hot sun in some northern urban areas

The North has been experiencing record summer temperatures for more than 40 years, with many places exceeding 40 degree Celcius. Combined with the impact of the "urban heat island" effect, the average heat at the same time in the big cities like Hanoi is harsher. The effect of hot weather on the life and activities of people, especially in urban areas, has been mentioned by many news agencies. However, the impact of these extreme weather phenomena on the living creatures in the urban environment receives less research.

Application of VNREDSat 1 satellite imagery data in preservation of cultural and natural heritages in central region

Scientists from the University of Natural Sciences under the Vietnam National University, Hanoi, led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Van Cu and some partner members from the Hue Monuments Conservation Centre, the University of Quang Binh, the Phong Nha Ke Bang National Park and the Mientrung Institute for Scientific Research, have recently successfully carried out the project VT/UD-03/14-15 on studying the application of images taken by VNREDSat-1 and geographical information serving the preservation of cultural and natural heritages in the central region, with pilot cases in Hue city and the Phong Nha Ke Bang National Park, from January 2014 to June 2016. On 27 August 2016, the project was adopted and assessed to be at a good level by the State Council on Science and Technology.

Autism is a disorder of the pervasive developmental disorder (Autism spectrum disorder). Early onset in the first three years of life, affecting the development of children in three main areas such as social interaction, language and behavior. In the United States, the incidence of autism has risen ten-fold since the 1980s, with an estimated one six-eighth of children diagnosed with autism. The number of boys diagnosed with autism was shown to be higher than girls. In Vietnam, increasing number of children with autism has created a great burden and challenge for families and society. Autism has been proven to be a disease caused by both genetic and environmental effects. So far, more than 100 genes related to autism have been identified.

New insights into the taxonomy and evolutionary process of bamboo bats of genus Tylonycteris in Southeast Asia with the description of a new species to science

An international team of scientists including members of the Institute of Ecology and Biological Resources, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (IEBR-VAST), the Hungarian Natural History Museum, the Natural History Museum of Geneva (Swiss), and the Muséum national d'Histoire naturelle (Paris, France) published results of a study entitled "Comparative phylogeography of bamboo bats of the genus Tylonycteris (Chiroptera, Vespertilionidae) in Southeast Asia" in the European Journal of Taxonomy 274: 1-38.
