According to the official announcement from the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), within the framework to expand the satellite development education assistance to emerging countries, a satellite made by Vietnamese engineers “MicroDragon” will be sent into orbit by Epsilon rocket, a Japanese solid-fuel rocket designed to launch scientific satellites in 2018.

During the framework of the cooperation between the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) and the Lam Dong Provincial People’s Committee on the subject “Developing the profile for Bidoup National Park – Nui Ba world biosphere reserve”, coded VAST.NDP.13/13-14 carried out between 2013 and 2014, through workshops at different levels in September, 2014, VAST Institute of Ecology and Biological Resources worked with the Bi Doup – Nui Ba National Park to complete the profile and submit it to the International Co-ordinating Council (ICC) of the Man and the Biosphere (MAB) Programme of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
On 13 December 2014, the Me Linh Biodiversity Station, Institute of Ecology and Biological Resources under the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) in collaboration with the Organization of Wildlife at Risk, the Ho Chi Minh City Forest Management Department and Cologne Zoo (the Federal Republic of Germany) received two white-cheeked gibbon Nomascus leucogenys belonging to a particularly precious and rare primate species, to raise for research and conservation.
On 2 December 2014, Dr. Pham Hong Quang, Director of the Center for Informatics and Computing (CIC) under the Vietnam Association of Science and Technology (VAST) was honoured one of 20 individuals who won the outstanding Chief Information Officer/Chief Security Officer (CIO/CSO) award of Southeast Asia in 2014 at the Conference and 10th awarding ceremony of outstanding CIO/CSO in Southeast Asia in 2014 jointly held by the International Data Group (IDG) and CEO & CIO Club.
VNREDSat-1, produced by VAST in coordination with Astrium EADS company (Airbus EADS company at present) was successfully launched into its orbit on May 7th 2013. After more than one year of stable operation in orbit, the satellite provided thousands of high resolution optical images to institutes, ministries and agencies to monitor and manage natural resources, the environment and natural disasters such as the management of forests, urban areas, national territory, sea and islands, floods, drought and landslides
In the framework of the cooperation research on insect diversity between the Institute of Ecology and Biological Resources under VAST and the Smithsonian Institute, Museum of Natural History, Washington, US, scientists have announced seven new species of beetle in northern Vietnam.
